(From Our Own Correspondent.) [All communications, letters, etc., left ivith Mr. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will reerne prompt attention.] JERSEY BREEDERS' ASSOCIATION. Stratford, April 21.. f n ." i!" "'S of members of the Stratford branch of the Jersey Breeders' Assedation v,;as held this afternoon. Prescnt: Messrs P. J. Peterson (chairman) Word Eros., J. T. Belcher, A. HuggcU, Gadsby, Paynter, and Tinnell. il'c principal business discussed was a letto;' forwarded by Mr. E. Griffiths, of New Plymouth, which stated he ha/1 written the secretary regarding the appointment of delegates to assemble at Hiiwcra to discuss matters coneemin" tne association. = The discussion that followed was mainly devoted to the action of the council cf Iho Zealand Jersey breeders Association in turning down remits passed at the last annual meeting of the association. Eventually it.was resolved tlut Messrs Peterson, F. Ranford and J. T. Belcher should represent the branch to confer with delegates from New Plymouth and Hawera, "on a date to be arranged, as to the advisabilof sending further remits until the articles of the assoeiaton had been amended, so as to assure that such remits would be given effect to. A vote, of sympathy was passed at the illness of the secretary (Mr. A. J). Stanley), and the hope expressed that he would soon be restored to health. DOMAIN BOARD. A meeting of the Demain Beard was held on Friday. Mr. G. N. Curtis presided, and the others present, were: Messrs W. P. Kirkwosd, T. IX. Ponn, and P. Thomson. The president of the Beautifying Society notified that a grant of £lO from their funds had been made to the board towards the cost of a small bridge over the Konlni stream.—The society is to be thanked for its generous assistance. The Telegraph Department are to be requested to grant permission to the board to erect a direction board to Kiiy lid ward Park. If permission is secured the board will be attached, to a telegraph post in Broadway, alongside the c-ntranco to the railway station. A new gate will be erected at the entrance to the croquet ground. At the next meeting a notice will be moved that the eleagnus hedge in Regan and Cordelia streots from the entrance to the lake be grubbed to save the expense of trimming. GENERAL. • By advertisement it will !. ■ . "• that both candidates for the Mayoralty will take the platform on Tuesday evening. The retiring Mayor (Mr. J. W. Boon) will speak at the Town Han, whilst his opponent (Mr. J. McMillan) "ill speak at His Majesty's Theatre at 11.30I 1 .30 p.m., the picture programme closing down a few minutes earlier. This arrangement will allow burgesses interested an opportunity of hearing both candidates. The lalies working on behalf of the patriotic funds had a busy time this afternoon, and their quarters wore thronged continuously. The Te Wera ladies ran tlip Mart, and brought in a big supply of vegetables, etc. A small pony brought in for sale attracted considerable attention, and was the means of adding to the day's takings. The beautiful weather was one of the prims reasons for bringing into town a large crowd of visitors. Another factor, and jrcbablv the principal, was that to-day was the milk cheque day for the March supplies. The good old British flag floated from the post cflice building. In other towns the stars and stripes may also be floating in the breeze. Stratf»rd evidently does not possess the U.S.A. iv'tonal flag, but that does not worry many. So long' as the ensign floats ale' "Ha well, although it is nice to thii* that our Amorican cousins are at last with us in the gre'at battle for humanity. "A rose by any other name smelft just as sweet." At the Stratford rink on Thursday an old player under a new name did remarkable well in the singles championship. On paper his name was Foley, but the inventive 'lino" man started oft' with Loby and finished with Toby. Might I ask liim td print Fred Foley as the player whose name lias caused so much difficulty to decipher. We learn on good authority that the manufacture of gold jewellery is being stopped at Home during the war, and in consequence such lines will lie hard to get. C. E. James, of Stratford, has a large stock, and wishing to quit same is holding a nine days' nine carat gold Bale, discounts fronj 5s in the pound. See window.
