HOLY TRINITY, TE HENUI.

ANNUAL MEETING' OF PARISHIONERS. The nnmini meeting of parishioners if the To Ileimi and' Bell Block paro•hial district was held on Wednesday •veiling last, the Viear (Rev. H. 'A. i'avell) presiding over a fair attendance. The following report, which had been irintcd and circulated, was taken an end and adopted without discussion: Vonr vestry, in presenting their report : or the year ending .March 31st last, ivoiihl call your attention to the fact ;hat this is the first Report which covers i whole year's work since the l'aroelual District was formed, At the time of the last Annual Meeting the Parochial District was only recently constituted, iind the Report then presented dealt largely with the old condition of things. The work of the past year has been rhiefly work of consolidation, but ymr vestry are pleased to be able to report steady, if slow, progress in all departments of Church work. At the last session of the Diocesan Synod hold in Auckland the boundary between St. Mary's Parish and this District was adjusted; and i* now the- boundary agreed upon by the [epresentativesof both districts when the question of separation was under discussion. The Seventy-first Anniversary of the Church of The Holy Trinity was kept by holding Thanksgiving Services on Thursday,"June 22, 1917. The weather much interfered with the attendance at celebrations of the Holy Communion in the morning, but a large congregation attended the service in' the afternoon, when the sermon was preached by the Rev. A. H. Colvile. The Bishop of the Diocese visit- -.-a for the purpose of ministering :firmation on Friday, November 24. Ifllli.- His Lordship very kindly gave us two Confirmations, one for adults in the morning, followed by a celebration of the. Holy Communion, and another for younger candidates in the evening. A Roll of Honor has been placed in the Church containing the names of boys from Church homes who are on active service for God, for King, and Country. It is intended when peace comes again to have the names permanently inscrioixi. At the Parish Church', (luring the year, there, have boon 135 celebrations of the Holy Communion, with 1400 receptions There, have been 16 Baptisms, 0 Marriages, and 24 Funerals. Eighteen persons were confirmed by the. Bishop in November. Your Vestry would wish to express their appreciation of the work of the Lay Readers who have helped during the year, and they -desire to offer a cordial welcome to Messrs G. Childerstone and G. M. Gilbert,-who have accepted the Vicar's invitation to act in that capacity. Mr. George List has given willing and ungrudging service since the formation of "the District, and it is with regret your Vestry learn of his departure on active service. They beg to assure him of their hearty, good wishes, and of a most warm welcome on his return. Ladies' Guild—The Ladies' Guild continues its useful work. The members of the Guild decided, in view of the prevailing conditions, not to hold a Sale of Work during the past year, but the meetings have, been regularly held and much useful work accomplished. It has been decided to bold a Sale of Work this year, on Wednesday, October 10th, and it is to be hoped that the elforts of the Guild will be strongly supported by parishioners generally. Sanctuary Guild.—The members of this Guild have faithfully fulfilled their work. The care of the Brasses and Altar Linen and the need for the provision of Mowers give opportunities for unobtrusive ministry which have been readily taken' advantage of. Sunday School.—The work of, the Sunday School has been diligently carried on. Mr. Childerstone is now Superintendent of the Holy Trinity School, anil Miss Harding has undertaken the secretarial work. The children of Holy Trinity are responsible for the support of a Melanesian Scholar, and have under-; taken to provide. £5 a year for the purpose. For the year just ended they managed to raise slightly more than'tho amount required. Parishioners, and.par-

ents specially, owe a particular debt of gratitude to the teachers for their labor of love. A reference library for the use of . Sunday Sehool teachers has been started. Choir.—-Thanks, are also due to the Organists and members of .the Choir. Miss Blundell and Miss B. Matthews con'iniKto play for us at Holy Trinity for llio morning service. As regards evening services, we were for. a time in diffictil- j ties. Miss Standish, ajid, afterwards Miss E. M. Gibson came to our help, and to botli your Vestry are deeply grateful. Mr. C. White has now undertaken the duties of evening organist, and has put steady enthusiasm into his work. The services at St. Luke's, Eell Block, have been regularly maintained and moderately well attended. Sixteen celebrations of Hie Holy Communion have been held, .with 203 receptions. Country services are, of course", very much affected by weather conditions, and there have been many wet Sundays which made it difficult for people to get to Church. Mrs. Colson and Miss Pote have given willing service at the organ, and Mrs. Colson continues her good work in the Sunday School. Finance/.—The financial statement attached to this Report does not cover the operations of the Ladies' Guild and the Sunday School, for which separate accounts are presented. In connection with the 'amount of .till) received from St. Mary's' Vestry, it may be pointed out that under the terms of separation the Parochial District of Te' Hcnui is entitled permanently to one-third of the income from St. Mary's Parochial Endowment Fund, which amount is temporarily supplemented by St. Mary's Vestry. The income from this source for the ensuing twelve months will be £SO, the supplementary grant from St. Mary's being reduced." at the rate of £lO each year. A succession of wet Sundays in the early part of the year, which seriously affected the income from collections, led your Vestry to establish the envelope system of collection, Mr. Day undertaking the necessary work of organisation. It is to be hoped that increased support may be given to this method of Church finance. Mr. Day Will gladly supply envelopes and give any information to those desiring it. Piano Fund.—The sum of £l4 10s has been collected for this fund in monthly payments, during the year, Mrs. Peteh and later Miss Black undertaking the work of collection; The sum of £4l 10s. has now bijen paid towards the purchase money for the Piano, leaving £1(1 12s Cd still owing. The accounts present oil showed a healthy condition of affairs in view of the many demands being made upon people at this time. General collections (including £ls 10s from St. Luke's, Bell Blpck) amounted' to £ll7 Ss lbd.

Collections for special purposes amountoil 1o £2O lps id and subscriptions to £4l 4s (id. Tlib expenditure amounted to £2B[) 12i Id. Tliu vicarage fund .mow stand* at £lO7 Ills 10d.
