ASTOUNDING FEAT.

This extract is not taken from a work of fiction, but from tho London "Gazette" record describing the astounding feat of Temporary Captain Frederick Elliott Hotblaek, MX'., Intelligence C, attached Machine Ciun C, for which the King has approved of his appointment to be a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order. Lieutenant H. (». Hend (Military Cross) "handled his tank with great courage and skill, remaining out for over an hour under heavy fire, and accounting for many of the enemy." These are only twp of the 305 acts of extraordinary valour recorded "in a special supplement of tho "Gazette." Another hair-raising (feat was performed bv Captain A. W.' H. Dean, of the Royal Engineers, who receives a bar to bis Military Cross. Captain Dean "blew a mine under the hostile front line which killed 2SO of the enemy." , Most men would have been satisfied with a feat such as that, but Captain Dean was not for it is recorded that "he went at once to tho enemy front line, with one servant, bombed a dug-out, and took three officers and 4G men prisoners."
