Thompson, postmast'tr of' Opunaku in respect of an alleged malicious slander uttered ; by defendant on or about January 20, 1917, concerning the plaintiff, as follows; "The neighbors say that yon are the biggest cattle thief around, and if eevryone had their deserts you would be in gaol." La*t Court day plaintiffs case was taken, and defendant's solicitor lad called evidence as to tho general reputation of plaintiff. Tho case wa sthen adjourned to enable plaintiff's solicitor to call evidence as to character in remittal. Yesterday 13 witnesses were ctlled te this effect.
