HOSPITAL SHIPS SUNK.
52 LIVES LOST. London, April 13. The hospital ship Salta struck a mine in the Channel and 52 perished. Beceived April 15, (i p.m. London, April 15. The hospital ship Salta, which is a converted French liner, was outward hound for France. Tho hospital Hliip Gloucester Castle iias been sunk without warning. The wounded on the hospital ship Gloucester Castle were saved. NURSES' MAGNIFICENT WORK. NO SEMBLANCE OF PANIC, Received April 13, 5.23 p.i» London, April 14. There were 450 wounded aboard the Gloucester Castle. The iuu'6B3 did magnificent work in saving the wounded. They calmly and methodically removed the" patients to the upper decks, anil thence to the rescuing boats.' There was no semblance, of panic, and the best, traditions of the army and medical service were splendidly maintained. The torpedo struck the steamer at three o'clock in the morning. A large number of craft of every description quickly answered the wireless call for help, and the patients suffered but littlo distressing experiences. The crew on deck distinctly saw the submarine, and agree that no warning was given. Many of the engine-room stnff ware badly scalded. GERMAN RAIDER SIGHTED. OFF AMERICAN COAST. New York, April 13. Olalveston reports that a Gorman raider lias been sighted at the mouth of the Yucatan Channel. Paris, April 1.1. The sinking of the schooned Loon tine cn March 25 was particularly ferocious. The schooner stopped, but. the submarine fired forty shells and killed four and Wounded three. The Germans boarded with bombs, and found the boatswain and cabin boy wounded. Both appealed to the Germans not to blow up the schooner, because they would die. A German officer shot the boy. Tho five survivors clung to the wreckage ail'! were saved.
