SHIPPING DIFFICULTIES. Brisbane, April 13. Addressing a conference on the difficulty of marketing maize, Mr Hughes said that the shipping losses were 600,000 tons a month. Shipping was being reduced faster than it could be restored. SERIOUS MICE PLAGUE. Sydney, April 13. The serious mice plague at all the wheat centres has already caused great damage to the large quantities of stored grain, and the losses threatened are so extensive that the Wheat Agents' Association is petitioning the Government to remove the wheat to Sydney without delay, to minimise the evil as far as possible. STANDARD OF PHYSIQUE REDUCED. Received April 13, 9.50 p.m. Melbourne, April 13. Mr Pcarce has announced that the standard for recruits as regards height Is to be reduced to oft Sin. and a few to 6ft for special work. The chest measurement to be 33in.
