SYDNEY CUP SCRATCHINGS. Received April 8, 11.5 p.m. Sydney, April 8. McM King and Colbert have been scratched for the Sydney Cup. TURF TOPICS. 1 (By "Moturoa"). There will be racing to-day at Ellerslie, Riccarton, Fcilding, Hawera, and a host of minor centres. Taranaki sports should roll up in full force at Hawera, where the Waimate Plains Trotting C'lnb' offers an excellent day's sport. Horses from Auckland, Cliristchurch, Wanganui. etc., arc already on the ground, and Mr H. Brinkmau appears to have winners well concealed. Tlio Cup may provide an interesting race between Hnia Grey, who has been doing good work at Wanganui, and Celtic, who filled the roll of runner-up to Flora Trnccy last year. Xavier has only to mi up to Wanganui form to prove dangerous in the Maidon. Lady Sefton and Rexcordium are up against a moderate lot in the Normanby Handicap, and the same may be said of C'lifl' in the District Handicap. The other events will see good horses like Tattles, Ardatli, Grattan Chimes, Celtic, etc., in action, and previous running may shed some light on possible- winners. Taranaki will be strongly represented at. Fcilding to-day, and a fair share of the stakes should come this way. Analogue is likely to give a good account of himself in the long-distance races, and Hushman, A'eto, Harbor Light, Madam Ristori and Tirana in the minor events, Taranaki can hardly scoop the pool as the opposition includes consistent horses like Mnlticipal, Gang Awa', Spain, Westella, etc., hut the above-mentioneft horses all appear to be very fit. The Canterbury autmnn meeting, which takes place to-da.v and to-morrow, will <iee some great horses in action. Desert Gold, Croesus, Sasanof, Kilbov, Bee, Gamecock. Tetca-tete, etc., are engaged. The chief event to-day is the Great Easter Handicap, for which seventeen are carded. The issue appears very open, but Gazique, Sasanof and Tete-a-tete have been heavily supported. Adjutant is a horse that is likely to run well during the. two days,
