(From Our Own Correspondent.)' 'Amongst the list of warrant and noncommissioned officers nominated to return to New Zealand for reinforcement commissions is Corporal B. L. Jpll, of the Engineers. Very Rev. Dean Power goes to Auckland by Monday's express. On Thursday evening last the members of the local Hibernian Society made a presentation to tlieir past president (Bro. JI. J. Kyne), who is being transferred from the Hawera police to the charge of the Port Awanui station. Constable Kyne and family leave for their new home on Tuesday morning. Owing to several vacancies occuring in the Borough Council considerable interest is being manifested as to probable candidates at the Borough Council elections. I understand that Mr. C. Cumming, who was at one time on the council, is to be a candidate. The secretary of the South Taranaki Winter Show states that a good entry has so far been received in the dairy sections. This is very satisfactory, considering the unsettled state of the dairy industry. Given fine weather the Waimate trotting meeting promises to be a great success to-day. Mr. B. McCarthy, solicitor, leaves for Wellington on Tuesday on a business trip. A number of soldiers belonging to Hawera and tlio surrounding districts arrived home on Thursday evening on leave for the Easter holidays. Amongst them were Privates Wm. Morrison and D. Ryan and Corporal Smart. Captain Spratt, military representative for the Canterbury Military Service Appeal Board, is spending his holidays with his parents. In the Methodist school room on Wednesday evening last a farewell social was tendered to Messrs H. Aekroya, v». T. Johnson and C. Mureh, who go into camp licit week. Amongst those reported still seriously ill in recent lists is Private H. G. Flyger, of Hawera. !;' SHEEP DOG TRIALS. •The Egmont sheep dog trials were concluded on Thursday with the following results:— Class II (heading, bringing back, driving and yarding) .—P.
