METHODIST CHURCH.
THE NEW PLYMOUTH CIRCUIT. The quarterly meeting was held in Whileley Hall 011 the 3rd in.st. Rev. T. G. Hammond presided, and there were also present the Rev, C. 11. Olds, 8.A., and a. good number of officials. The quarter closed with a credit balance of £l2 lis 2d and for this satisfactory state of affairs the sucmful efforts of the country places in the harvest thanksgiving services were in no small measure responsible. A good deal of the time of the meeting was devoted to arrangements for the reception of the new ministers, the Rev. W. A. Sinclair, the President of the Methodist Conference for t'his year, who is to be superintendent of the circuit, the Rev. fi. L. 'Richards, and Mr. Souster, the home missionary), who is to have charge of the St. Aubyn district. The chairman congratulated the circuit on these appointments, and others who n ere acquainted with them spoke highly of the character and earnestness of ail three. ißesolutions of sympathy were adopted with members of the church 'who have been bereaved, and with others who were seriously ill! In this connection opportunity was taken by several to voice their appreciation of the sterling worth and quiet usefulness of the late Mr, Nelson Okey, Who had hifor so many years connected with the work of the church and cliolr at Whiteley Memorial. Comprehensive resolutions were passed dealing with liquor, racing, gambling and amusements. The following resolutions were also unanimously adopted: Congratulation to the Rev. T. (4. Hammond on his appointment as General Superintendent of •Maori -work throughout the Dominion, to succeed the late "Father" Gittos; congratulation to the Rev. A. B, Chappell, M.A., on his appointment as registrar of the Auckland University College; appreciation of the three j'cars 1 work of the Rev. C. H. Olds, 8.A., coupled with the hope that he might some day return to the circuit as its superintendent; and appreciation of ;the services of the Rev. L. Hudson as pulpit supply for three Sundays. A tone of earnestness and hope pervaded the whole meeting which, at a late hour,, was adjourned until after the arrival of the Rev. W. A.
