PONSONBY BOYS' BAND.

AN ENJOYABLE PERFORMANCE. .The members of the Ponsonby Boys' Oram and Fife Batu\, under Bandmaster tr. Fearn, and accompanied by Messrs \ D. Callinan (manager) and G. tiwilliatu (assistant manager and secretary), who are on their Easter tour,' arrived in New Plymouth on Saturday. This organists t»oii, which has bwu formed 6omt? sevw or eight years, is the champion band Of New Zealand, having won at several coinpetitions, in one of which Mr. F. W, fl. McLeod, Bandmaster of the New Plyinouth Citizens' Band, was judge. Tlio organisation numbers somelso bovs, who give their services free throughout the year and receive an annual tour as somo recompense, their music en route paving the expenses. On arrival at New /Plymouth the boys were met* by Mi'. I'. ('). Rllis, and billetted, and it'redounds ta the credit of New Plymouth'!! hospital■t.v that fully double the number of boys could have been put up. On Saturday evening the boys assembled at the Hed House corner and played a selection, nfterwards marching to Ihe Post Office, where they played a cbuple of selections, their playing being quite up to their reputation. There was consequently a ' al " e gathering at the Ngamotn beach j esterday afternoon, where the boys <*avo a splendid programme, their items' being frequently applauded. The programme Comprised:—March "Belle of Chicago,'* selection "Mcrrie England," valse "Day. break," march "Combat," selection "Tho Walls of Limerick," march "Little Din, mend," march "Marseillaise," selection "Gems of English Melody," march'"Warrior.'' The last item, "There's a Long, tang Trail," the refrain being sung, was given by special request. At eleven o'clock thu morning the boys will leave tile Herl Ifduse corner and march to Katvaroa Park, where during the festivities arranged there they will discourse their popular liuisic.
