I'-ATRIOTISM of ROMAN CATHOLICS By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, April 4. When two appeals for the exemption of Catholic priests were before the Milk tary Service Board, Mr Considine, it member of the board, said that representations had been made to him that Catholics had not gone to the front ill proper quota. He understood that Mr. O'Lnary, counsel for Archbishop O'jShea', had said that 14,000 Catholics had gone. Mr. O'Leary said )n3 statement was based on representations made to hint that 14 Catholic chaplains had gone, and that one went with every 1000 Catholics. Mr. Considine pointed out that that would mean that the Catholics had sent more than their quota. He added that of the Catholics who had gone from Xcw. Zealand the deaths were 17 per cent., o'l the others 14 per cent.
ALLEGED CATTLE STEALING
Hamilton, April 4. A young man named Harold Keys wU absconded from bail entered into by h'u father to the amount of £250, in connection with cattle stealing, has been arrested at Hunterville on charge. He denied bis identity, but upon the arrival of Detective Cooney abandoned his plea. Prisoner, who wp gqillg under the name, of Henry Garrett, was lodged at Mt. Eden gaol, and will be charged here on April 12.
