GERMAN MACHINATIONa

Melbourne, April 2. The Government is possessed of information of German espionage in Australia, which shows that every effort is being made to get into touch with Ger-; man residents and Interned men.

A report from,a German missionary at Broome, which was intercepted, contained information as to the adaptability of West Australia to German settlement. A great steamship company was, for intelligence purposes, nothing less than a branch of the German Admiralty. Tho German press was most accurate in sending news favorable to the enemy cause.

In one district a German agent endeavored to organise the German population m readiness for military operations. r
