BOWLING.

NEW (PLYMOUTH DEFEATS STRAT•FORD. The weather was glorious and the green in good order for the semi-final match in the banner competition, played at Inglewood yesterday, between teams representing the above dubs. Play generally was keen in the early stages, the totals with six heads decided showing Kevv' Plymouth leading by five points. At the "end of 12 heads New Plymouth had improved their lead by 15 points. G. Smart's team suffered an eclipse against Johnson, who had then run up 28 points against the Stratford skip's 8. Herb Smart had a bad run up to this stage, his four notching 7 points against Bickerton's 2S. The best contest was that between A. K. Smart's four and Sharp. The latter held the lead till the 20th head, when Smart sSored a welcome 5 that placed him in the lead for the first time by 3 points. Hall hung on well to the Stratford clan led by McMillan, and the play finished with scores level. Johnson and G. Smart played two heads short, owing to burnt heads. At the conclusion of play, J. Morey, on behalf of the New Plymouth club, thanked the Inglewood club for the use of the very excellent grounds. Mr. J. Masters, president of the Stratford club, congratulated the winners on their play. The afternoon had been an enjoyable one, and he hoped for 'better luck next time. Cheers were then exchanged, and an extra one given for the ladies for providing afternoon tea.
