RUA PERJURY CHARGES.
FURTHER PROCEEDINGS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Hamilton, Last Night. The trial of the Native, Tutftva Kanika,' on a charge of perjury, still continues at the Supreme Court. Evidence for the defence is now being adduced in the direction of showing that Constable Skinner fired the first shot at ltua's settlement on April 2, 1910. A Native witness swore that the police had interviewed him and endeavored to induce him to discard his line of evidence relative to Pukepuke lifting the gun, and to seelt a fresh line o( evidence. Further questions wore being a»k«l when the judge ruled tliein out as being irrelevant to the present ease. .Mr. .Mays said lie did not deny the interview by Senior-Sergeant Ousels, but denied the complexion put upon it by Mr., Lundon. The statement was absolutely unconnected with this or other cases, and the interview in question had been held for an entirely different purpose.
