Mr, A. J. Morton, chief inspector in the Taranaki Education district, who recently underwent a serious operation, and has been absent on siek leave, resumed duty last week and was present at the meeting of the Board of Education yesterday. At yesterday's meeting of the Taranaki Education Board, leave of absence was given to Misses M. Berry, C. Nisbct, Messrs Anioore, N. S. White, J. T. Linehan, and F. Butler. Miss Williams was granted a week's leave instead of the month asked for.
At the monthly mooting of the Land Board yesterday, the chairman (Mr. Billiard) read a Gazette notification of lie reappointment of Mr, John Hcslop, of Elthain, as a member of the Board for a further term, and he was congratulated by both the chairman and members of the Board. Mr. Ileslop is the doyen of Land Board members throughout the tfominion, having sat continuously for twenty-three years as a member for the Taranaki district, a record that is unique in the land administration of the Dominion.
The death of a highly-respected citizen, Mr. Samuel S. Revans, occurred at Napier on Friday, at the age of 79 years. The deceased was well and favorably known in commercial and banking circles and had been in the Dominion over 48 years. He was bom near Montreal, Canada, 111 1838, and was a son of the late Dr. Stebbing Revans, of Canada, and nephew of the late Mr. Samuel Revans, wlio.se name figured prominently in the early history of Wellington us secretary of the first New Zealand Association and n.s proprietor and printer of the first newspaper published in the province of Wellington.
