HIGH SCHOOL BOARDING FEES.
To tlie Editor, Sir, —I notice at the last monthly meeting ,of the High School Board a committee was appointed to inquire into the financial position, with a view to raising the4>oarders' fees. This, at present is £l3 per term, exactly £1 per week, if paid within 31 days of commencement of teim. If this is increased, I am afraid the boarding establishment will suffer, as private board will be obtainable for less. That it is sufficient, is -proved by the fact that the boys' establishment for last year shows a profit of £537 14s Bd. The girls' shows a loss of £l4l 18s 7d, but, I believe, they were charged at a less rate than the boys. With a uniform rate of £1 per week, Imaintain, under competent management, with from 100 to 150 boarders, there should be a substantial profit. In any case, £l3 per term is as much as most parents can afford to pay, and to raise the fees will probably have a detrimental effect upoiitlie attendance at the school.—l am, etc., COUNTRY PARENT.
