AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.
COMMITTEE MEETING. A general meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Agricultural Society, was held on Saturday afternoon, when there were present:— Messrs J. S. Connett (president), in the chair, W. B. Grant, J, R. Rowlands, W. Hall, X. W. Hill, Turnbull, J. Allen, T. Hodson, C. ft'. Ruebc, A. Lister, R. H. Pigott, T. Sraellie, 13. Honeyfteld. • THE FINANCIAL ASPECT. The president remarked that the most interesting feature at this meeting was naturally the financial results of the late show. All.knew that the show "had been a great success. The receipts this year, last year's being given in parentheses for comparison, were:—Gate £IBO Ills Od (£l2O 10s 2d), catalogues £l4 (£7), guessing competition £24 4s (£27), space £2B 10* (£5 ss). Gift calves last year realised £SO. This time there were only three calves given; probably because owing to the high value of calves the committee did not press the matter. The total receipts were £438, as against £,lff7 last year. The principal items of expenditure were:— Prize money £372 (£389), advertising £llß 12s (£lO7 15s), catering £43 lis (£27 7s 6d), labor, £ls 3s (£27 10s); total, £6BB, as against £flG7. On the whole, there was thus a gain of £3O over last year, which must be regarded as gratifying to all concerned. Regarding the financial position of thev ground, he stated that £2274 13? 4d had been expended on the grounds, and £2050 5s on the grandstand. This, less the material from the old ground ( £l4l 15s Gd), made a net expenditure or £4182 17s 10d. Subscriptions paid totalled 1731 and debentures £2494 10s. There was a credit balance of £521 14s 3d in the bank, Subscriptions, estimated to produce £220, were outstanding, and there was £525 in debentures to collect. This, with other items, gave/ £1575 103 3d. There were outstanding accounts amounting to £llOB, leaving a credit of about £450. The donation*,, including cups, totalled £3S3. The ohairman stated that it was prof posed to carry out further improvements within reason, such as the levelling and grassing of portions of the ground. GENERAL. It was unanimously decided to forward letters of thanks to the.following: —Messrs T. Luxton and F. Arfdrews, for straw; H. 0. Sampson, Bert. Sampson,' H. Skelton, C. Colstm, and J. B. Marsh, for preen feed and turnips; P. Andrews, E. Xops, Fox, Kibby, Woods, Freezing Company, G. Colson, A. Colsonj F. Footc, Newton King and Mrs. Bellringer, for paddocks; Mr. N. W. Hill for use of iron. It was also decided to send a letter of thanks to the railway oflicials'for the use of clean trucks, which were greatly appreciated by exhibitors, also for the harmonious way in which they assisted the exhibitors in getting stock away after the show. * Letters wote received from several of the judges nt the autumn show expressing appreciation of the treatment received, and-expressing the best wishes for the future welfare of the Society. Many of them also asked that their expenses should be accepted by the Society as a donation. The recommendation of the executive regarding the appointment of subcommittees to consider the designs 'of medals and certificates was approved. THE WINTER SHOW.
