The proposals for the classification of the Second Division of the Expeditionary Force Reserve have not yet come before the Minister of Defence, but they have been in preparation for some time. It is understood (says the Dominion) that the proposal is to classify the men according, first of all, to age, and secondly according to the. number of their children. The age standard of classification was not used in the First Division, but jthe Second Division is, of course, a very much larger body, making some such scheme of classification possible, and even desirable. At the outset it was hoped that it would be possible to take some account of a man's dependents other than wife and children, but it is found that this entails too much investigation. The authorities are now of opinion that for the purposes of classification it will be sufficient to consider only the wife and children of a reservist. A man who has other dependents will still have the right to appeal to a Military Service Board'if he considers his case one of hardship.
