SHOULD A. AND.P. SHOWS BE HELD?
MANAWATU ASSOCIATION'S DECISION. By Telegraph.—Press -Association. Palmerston- North, Last Night. The Manawatu A. & P. Association to-day considered a letter from the Jlawke's Bayq A. & 'P. Society, in which the latter stated they would not hold shows during the coming financial year, provided the principal societies in the Hawke's Bay and Wellington districts would agree to adopt the same course. The president (Mr. J. M. Johnston) sail the position was that the Manawatu Association must provide £ISOO each year before it got anything for prize money, advertising, printing, labor, etc. If the show was not held, this £ISOO would have to bo met. There was no reliable income outside the members' subscriptions, entry fees, gate money, and donations. It would be necessary to- ask members to continue their subscriptions, and give them only winter show privileges. If .the show was not held it would greatly upset the organisation of the association, as once membership was allowed to go down it would be a difficult matter to get it up again. He moved:—"That the committee is of opinion that it is not desirable to abandon the spring show unless the Government considers it advisable and instructs accordingly." An amendment: "That the committee is of opinion that it is not desirable to abandon the spring show," was carried.
