MILITARY SERVICE BOARD.
HAWEEA SITTINGS. The First Wellington Military Service Appeal Board resumed its sittings in Hawera yesterday. Before proceeding with Hie appeals set down for the day, the chairman said the Board had decided to adjourn the appeal of James Kiddcll Robertson until the next sitting, and mentioned that the Board would like the Efficiency Board to give it more information about the position of appellant. Mr. Spratt mentioned the case of Frederick Gawith, Hawera, whose appeal on Saturday was dismissed because the appellant did not appear, and asked u the Board would reconsider appellant's case. Counsel explained the reason for appellant's non-appearance when the case was called on. The chairmnn said the Board would consider the case and give its decision later on.
Vernon Douglas Klliott, farmer, Kohuratahi, who asked for leave until April 30, said that at the present time he had no one on the farm except his youngest brother, who had just left school. Captain Walker said this was a genuine case for leave.
The Board dismissed the appeal, Captain Walker undertaking to get the appellant leave until April 29. George William Henry Morice Hurrell, dairy farmer, Rotokare, who did not appear, had his appeal struck out. Captain Walker stated (hat appellant had enlisted for the 29th Reinforcements too late to avoid the ballot. Frederick John Jones, farm hand, Mahoe, Stratford (Mr. O'Dea), appealed on the ground of undue hardship. In his formal appeal appellant stated that hia father was dependent solely upon him, and he had one brother at the front.
Griffith Jones, father of the appellant, said his son, who was married, was assisting him on a 204-aere farm, on which he was milking between fiO and 70 cows. He had one son away with the 9th Reinforcements. His only lulp, in addition to his son, was a lad, and there was no guarantee that he would teniain. He had another married son, who was farming on his own account. The Board reserved its decision.
Thomas Henry Carr (Mr. O'Dea) appealed on the ground of public interest and undue hardship. ' Appellant said he ;Was carrying on mixed farming in the Pohukura district, and in addition to doing his own farm work, he managed a farm for Mr. O'Connor, who was practically an invalid. He was a tenant in common with another, and his partner, who had enlisted, was going into camp in April.
In reply to the Board, appellant said he had endeavored to find someone to take his place. He was the only single man remaining in the district. His partner was now trying to sell the farm. The Board reserved its decision sine die, provided Michael MeCarten, appellant's partner, goes inlo camp on or before April 2ft, and provided appellant remains in his present occupation; appellant to report to the group commander monthly.
Allan Richard Walker, farm hand, Makaliu, appealed on the ground of public interest.
Mr, Stanford, who appeared for the appellant, said that the appellant's employer (Mr, S. Brewer) was really asking for time until June or July. The Board granted leave until June 25, provided appellant remained in his present occupation. Cornelius Murtinuir, farm laborer, Cardiff, asked for time until April 1.
Tli« anneal was formally dismissed, appellant being granted leave until April [v., the date of the departure of the April draft. Michael Patrick Condon, dairy farmer. Te Roti (Mr. O'Dea)', appealed on the ground of public interest and undue hardship. Appellant said he had a leasehold of 113 acres, on which he and his brother were milking 4(i cows by hand. His brother was going before the Medical Board to-day (Tuesday), and if he failed appellant was prepared to go into camp in April or May. The case was adjourned until this morning.
John Kerrisk, dairy farm assistant. Wharehua, Midhirst (Mr. O'Dea). appealed on the ground of public interest, and undue hardship.
Appellant said he was assisting his father to milk 70 cows on ICO acres. Machines were used. Appellant himself did the milking, with the help of his father. His father was not in the best of health. His mother had 100 acres adjoining, and it was worked in conjunction with the father's farm. Appellant said his mother also was not in Very good health. If appellant wont, to the front he did not think his father would be able to carry on the farm unless he could obtain adequate assistance. He had one brother at the front, The Board reserved its decision,
Timothy Murphy, farmer; Kohi, Waverley (Mr.. Graham), asked for extension of time until the end of May. Appellant said lie occupied a leasehold farm of 18!) acres, and Was milking GO cows. He was the second or third largest, supplier to the Kohi factory, and it would mean it serious loss to the factory if lie were to stop supplying, Appellant had a boy of lf> on the farm, The Board reserved its decision.

The appeal of Henry Wilfred Swinburn, dental surgeon, Haw-era, was adjourned, on (lie application of Mr. Spratt. until (lie next sitting of the Board.
The appeal of Joseph Saywell Tosland, farmer, Vihama, who did not appear, was dismissed.—Star.
