THE EMPIRE.
A SPLENDID PROGRAMME. An exceptionally good and interesting selection of pictures was screened with the change of programme at the Empire last evening. The chief draw was a grippingly attractive Vitagraph "Broadway" star feature, "West Wind," from the pen of the popular novelist, Cyrus Townscnd Brady. The story is a grand romance of the Western frontier that takes the onlooker right into the wild days when every man carried a gun, and! it was ho who was the quickest that lived to tell the tale. Mr. Brady's books are very popular with readers, and if "West Wind" can be taken as an example, pictures produced from hit, stories are likely to become equally popular with picture patrons. Supporting the star was a side-splitting Chaplin "Mutual" comedy, "One A.M."; an industrial fllm/'How a. Motor-cycle is made"; a fino travel picture, "British India"; a comedy cartoon, "A Day's Work." and a comio subject, "All Stars." To-night will bo the. last screening of this programme. MARY PICKFORD TO-MORROW. Commencing a three-night season tomorrow, the management will present the most popular of all picture actresses, Miss Mary Pickford, in her greatest success since "Toss," a powerful story of humanity entitled, "The Eternal Grind." Mary is one of three sisters who work m a "sweated" factory; each sister takes a different road, whilst tlie road of one is smooth and easy, the others tare roughly. lb j s a s tory grave and gay and provides many opportunities for that wmsomeness that has won Manto her present high pinnacle in the motion picture world.
