Weut.-Colonel B. C. Freyberg, V.C., who was seriously wounded in action iii France several weeks ago, has rejoined his regiment. Mr. and Mrs. John Fuller (Welling* ton), Mr. and Mrs. Ballantvne (Napier), and Mr. E. F. Black ("Cargen," Auckland) are staying at the Mountain House. A cable from Sydney reports that Richard Teece, general manager of tho A.M.P. Society, retires at the end of April. Mr. Teece is a New Zealander. The two sons of Mr. Dan, Barry, ol Fitstroy, have botli been accepted for active service. One is at present in camp, and the other leaves for camp o» April 2. Word was received yesterday that 'Private T. Crompton, formerly of Duncan and Davies' nursery, was killed in action on March 5. Private Crompton left with the Main Body. His mother, formerly of Omata, now lives in Auckland, and much sympathy will be felt for her in tho 1 s of a bright son, whose future was full of promise. At a gathering of friends and colleagues of the stock department of the New Zealand Loan 'and Mercantile Agency Co., at the Club Hotel, Stratford, last night, Mr. R. D. Burrell was presented with u case of pipes and a safety razor outfit on the eve of hia leaving for camp. Mr. W. Moore presided, the presentation being made by Mr. W. Holmes. Several toasts were honored and a pleasant time spent, the best wishes of all present being evpressed for Mr. Burrell's success and safe return.
