ANTI-SHOUTING CASES. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Whangarei, Last Night. As the result of the police surveillance, no fewer than 19 anti-shouting cases came before the Magistrate's Court. Thomas Marshall, for treating, was fined £2O. Thos. Blood, licensee of the Parua Hotel, was fined £3O for ''knowingly selling liquor illegally," anil was convicted and discharged for "permitting treating." A STIFF SENTENCE. Wellington, March 10. The result of the court-martial on Samuel Edward Fitzgerald, who -was drawn in the first ballot, has been announced. Fitzgerald was charged witli having deserted from hi? Majesty's Services, in that he absented himself from the Expeditionary Forces until apprehended by the civil authorities, he at that time having signed on as a steward on the Manuka, for Sydney. The court found accused guilty, and sentenced him to imprisonment) with hard labor, for one- year. The sentence has been confirmed.
