At a district meeting of the Taranal;i tranches of Oddfellows, held at Knpenga, yesterday, Mr C. E. Bellringer wc.s presented with a gold watch as a mark of appreciation of his piolonged service as corresponding district secretary. Mr Bellringer lias just relinquishe.i this arduous position alter sixteen years' service.
The death occurred at fJerald'ne on Saturday of the Rev. John Knox Barkhe, ill Ins 80th year. He was born in the County of lJciry, Ireland, and after taking holy orders, became rector of Moirn, County Down, and held that position for many years. Mr. John David Logan, a well-known Hawkc's Bay settler, died at Tamuniu on -Saturday. 110 compla'ned of pains about his heart 011 Friday night, and rajiidiy became worse. The late Mr. Logan was 42 years of age and leaves a widow and young family. He was known throughout the province ar.d highly esteemed. Vrs Jacob Bauer, of Auckland. who died recently, in her seventvnintli year, was one of Auckland'* -old ■cent.ties., fShc arrived in Cnehunga Fome 57 years ,\go with her husband, who at that time joined the Waikato Militia, and saw active service in the Maori War, being wounded in one of the engagements. On peace being l'estored, they settled in the Waikato. 'Mr Bauer predeceased his wife some 25 years ago.
