GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL.
ANNUAL SWIMMING SPORTS. The (|imual swimming sports of the New Plymouth Girls' High School were held at the municipal baths yesterday afternoon. ( The weather was tine and the water was pleasant. The programme was a long and diversified one, and the large number of spectators spent an interesting period. Numerous entries were recorded in nearly every race, and some exciting finishes were witnessed. An interesting exhibition of fancy swimming and diving was given •bv Messrs P. Schwartz 'and N. A. Christiansen, the various items of the exhibition being as follow: —Schwartz, swim a length in four strokes; Christiansen, plunge; S., swim with hands and feet tied; G., swim on breast feet first; S., swim like a duck; C'., swim like K dog; S., representation of a shipwreck; C., act like a propeller; S., act like a submarine; C. and S.. act like a circular propeller; S., motionless floating, illustrating the buoyancy of the body; C., writing under water; S.. eating undeV water. Other Items given by the swimmers in turn were neat header, back dive, splash, naughty boy dive, back somersault, front somersault, half turn with back spring, inverted /five, emperor spring-., hand spring, double dives, and high dives. Among those present at the sports were Mr. D. Hutchen, chairman of the High School Board of Governors, and Colonel J. E. Hume and Mrs. Hume. The sports were held under the supervision of the teachers. Misses Clark and Aitken were the starters and Misses Drew and Fairbrother were the judges. Mr. P. Schwartz, caretaker of the baths, also assisted. The results are as follow: Maiden race (one length of bath): Mavis Brunette 1, V. Johns 2. Swimming on back (filial): P. Brown I, J. Coolce 2. Cookie Corfu dive: P. Brown 1, M. Johnston and R. Hempton 2. Diving for plates: O. Ducker 1, M. Johnston and J. Cook 2. Beginners' race: Mary, Kivell I, M Berridge 2. Junior championship: D.
