BACKBLOCKS SCHOOLS.

EDUCATION BOARD'S TOUR. The members of the Taranaki Education Board leave this morning by motorcars from Stratford on' a tour of the back-country schools of Taranaki, and especially of that portion merged from the Auckland district. The visit will occupy four days. The first night will be spent in Whangamomona, the second at Ohura, the third at either Matiere or Ohura, and on the fourth day the Board returns to Stratford. . The trip is being made In order that members of the Board may obtain a thorough grip of educational conditions in the hinterland of the province. All the schools beyond Taliort were previously in the Auckland education district. The following is a time-table, as correct as can be gauged, of the Board's visit:— Monday.—9.3o a.m., Toko; 10.30, Douglas; 12, Hiiiakama'; 1.30 p.m., Pohokura; 2, Whangamomona; 2.30, Marco; 4.30, Hurimoana; 5.30, return to Whangamomona. The Whangamoiuona School Committee will be met in the evening. Tuesday.—9 a.m., Tahora; 11, Tatu; 12, Tokirima (where a deputation will also be received from Otunui); 4 p.m, Ohura. In the evening deputations will wait on the Board at Ohura from Turoto road north and Turoto road south. Wednesday.—B.3o a.m., Nihoniho; 9, Matiere; 0.30, Otangiwai; 11, return to Matiere; 1 p.m., Mahirikau; 3, Ongarue (deputations also from Paraketu Valley settlers). If time permits, the Board will also visit Okahukura, which is six miles on another road from Mahirikau. It depends on this trip being made whethes the Board spends the night at Matiere or Ohura. Thursday.—The return trip will be made on Thursday, following the same route as taken on the way up. Communications have been sent to all the committees likely to be met, but the Board will be willing to receive other deputations- providing suitable I times and places could be arranged. The distance covered by the tour will be in the neighborhood of 320 miles.
