WOMAN'S SAD DEATH.
ILL-HEALTH AND BEREAVEMENT. A married woman named Mrs. Edith Myrtle Young, aged 28, the wife of Mr. John Young, farm laborer, Tikorangi, died in the New Plymouth hospital at midnight on Tuesday, as the result of heart failure and poisoning. An inquest into the circumstances was opened before Mr. A. Croake, S.M., yesterday afternoon. Evidence was given by John Young, husband of deceased, that when he returned home on Monday afterncyi, after working at fencing seven miles distant, deceased was annoyed because he was late. His absence meant that she woula have to do more work on the farm. Two hours later, when witness and the children were in the room, he saw deceased pick up a bottle of poison from the shelf. He ran to her, but she threw the bottle at him, crying, "I have taken it. Goodbye, Jack, I'm going." Witness j ! administered an emetic, without success, I | and deceased became insensible. Dr. ! Campbell, of Waitara, was sent for. On j ' arrival of the doctor another emetic was ' , administered, with some success. The j doctor ordered deoeascd's removal to the hospital. In answer to the Coroner, witness said that deceased had comI plained that the work on the farm was j too much for her. Witness said deceased | had been in indifferent health since she ! was 17 years of age. She had lost three I brothers, two of whom had been killed I at the war, in the last ten months, and I she had been much grieved in consequence. She had four children, one of whom had been in ill-health. > William Darey Foreman, farmer, ,; Tikorangi, said the last witness was in his employ. He found"' deceased Iving | insensible in her husband's arms, and he , sent for the doctor. Witness said he j sav^ deceased while she was in hospital on Tuesday. She was then conscious and spoke to him. At this stage the inquest was ad- , 1 journed sine die to give Dr. E.
