At latest accounts she was progressing as favorably as could he expected. Jt is no credit to our district that people cannot leave out their washing at night to dry, as before the morning they are all removed. This ha& happened in two instances just lately, people losing their clothes. j The farewellini of our soldiers, Privates Sharrock, Wallis, H. James and 3. •Tames, took p'ace on Friday evening. , The hall was crowded to bid farewell ! to the soldier?. There were also three visiting soldiers, brothers, the Privates Salisbury, whom everyone was very pleased to meet. Songs were rendered by Mrs. Wright, Air. Croom and Air. IIand were well received. Airs. Groom and AM. T. Hughson, jun., played the accompaniments. Mr. Hughson gave a >-plend:d recitation, considering it was his that attempt. Alessrs Gibson, T. Hughson, senr., and -Taylor said 'a few appropriate words, and wished the boys a safe return. Air. T. Hughson, junr., then presented Private Sharrock with a safety razor and Mr. Gibson handed to Private j. James a wristlet watch, and to Private H. James a belt and pipe. Air. Wright asked Private Wallis to accept a wristlet watch, and hoped he would come safely back wearing it, then Aliss Alary Conroy came forward to fasten it on for him. Private Sharrock responded for himself and companions and was received with applause. Supper was then handed round and dancing started later. Mr. Evan3. our local factory manager, haSj owing illness, been granted two months' lea. of absence. We hope soon to see him well again.
