ENEMY STILL RETIRING.
FRONT AND SUPPORTING LINES CAPTURED. COUNTER-ATTACKS REPULSED. Received March 5, 9.40 p.m. London, March 5. Field-Marshal Sir Douglas Haig reports: We attacked and captured the enemy's front and support lines eastwards of Bouchavesnes on a twelve hundred yards frontage, and heavily repulsed several counter-attacks. The enemy continues to yield ground eastward of Gommecourt, where we advanced to a depth of twelve hundred yards on a frontage of two miles. EXPLOSION AT POWDER FACTORY. Received March 5, 9.40 p.m. Paris, March 4. There was an explosion in a powder factory near Virtie Petit, two being killed and nineteen injured.
