BOROUGH COUNCIL.

WORKS COMMITTEE. The Works Committee of the Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr C. H. Burgess), Cra J>. ill. -Monteath, J. W. flaw'on, F. E. Wilson, A. H. Johnstone, W. W. F. Short, F. J. Hill, S. J. Smith, E. Griffiths, J .T. Mannix and A. E. Watkins. The committee diseused the estimates at some length. Tht! committee decided that no tenders he called for annual supplies this year, the orders to be divided among the different tradesmen as at present. The Blenheim Oil Company was requested to abate the nuisance caused by the drainage of waste product from the Blenheim bore to the beach at Moturoa. The borough engineer was instructed to submit an estimate of the cost of carrying out his recommendations with reference to planting the bank at thq tram terminus at the Breakwater. Mi Andrews, of Eliot Street, will bo ' informed that the council cannot accept any liability for the fencing of thfl drain through his property./ In reply to the Fitzroy ■Committee's lequest for tree-planting, the committee will be asked to submit plans and proposais to the council. A -1-inch water main will be extended along Konald street. The water service will be extended to Richmond street to enable Mr Langridge'a house to ba connected.
