ATTEMPT TO ESCAPE SERVICE.
STOWAWAYS ARRESTED. By Telegraph. —Pre;s Association. / Auckland, March 2. Thomas M'Gce f<nd Harry Taylor were charged at the police court to-day with having attempted to leave New Zealand without having obtained permission. After the steamer Kurow left the wharf for Newcastle last night she stopped in the stream, ~ent for the police and handed over the two accused. M'Gec had £IIG in his possession. He is a single man, a builder by trade. He was calleci up in the ballot and exempted till March to arrange his affairs. Taylor is a printer by occupation. A negro, named Lopez, was clyyged ' with counselling and aiding M'Gee. Accused were remanded for a week. On an application for bail Sergeant •Rutledge objected. He stated that MsGee had arranged to give one man £IOO for assisting him to get away. Bail was refused.
