NEW PLYMOUTH GOLF CLU B .

AM2TOAU MEETING. Tho annua] meeting of the Now Piymotuli Golf Club was held last cevning, when the captain, Mr. W. P. Nicoll, presided over a fair attendance. The annual report stated that about £SO had ben raised for various patriotic funds: that the membership had suffered owing* to the war; that subscriptions amounted to £3ll, as against £31)0 last year, necessitating the cutting down of expenses as much as pev sible; that donations by members amounted to £l2; that the arrangements with the Farmers' Freezing Company would help the club's finances and improve the condition of the links; that hunkering and tree-planting were continued during the year, but the finances would not'permit of as much being done as could have been wished, yet improvements of a permanent character had be?n made; that tho Easter tournament had proved very successful, the profits being directed to the patriotic funds, and it was hoped the fixture would bo continued, both for the purpose of helping war funds until the war is over, and for popularising the links for flic future. Regret was expressed at the death of Mr. H. Stockor, a member held in In'gli estimation by all. Members were urged to actively interest themselves in tho success, of the club. Addressing the meeting, the chairman said the committee had discussed the financial position, and it was found that if the club continued as it did last yeai it would not be able to make ends meet It had been found imperative to dispense with the second man on the links. In accordance with a system of economy, the lady members would be asked to play on the links on only two days of the week, Thursday and Saturday, am) not on Tuesday as in the past. The committee felt that this arrangement would meet the convenience of many members. He hoped that those members wno in the pas f had been indifferent as to the club's affairs would take, more interest in future, and if they had a ivy complaints to make he hoped they would convey them to the committee. Jfr. F. S. Johns, who seconded tho proposal, said lie did not agree with th« pessimistic view taken by the chairman. It was true the committee was facej' with a considerable shrinkage of revenue, but with economy and ''boosting" he had no doubt that the club's position would be improved. He emphasised tho importance of increasing the membership, and said one new member to every five present members should be added. The report and balance-sheet were adopted.
