Considerable" discussion took place at the Methodist Conference on the queslion of the enlistment of ministers. Tho mutter of the war was dealt with 3tt Committee, and resulted in following resolutions being carried: (1) "That we greatly rejoice in the patriotism of OUT ministers, home missionaries and students, as manifested by the fact that . 2li per cent, of those who are eligible have enlisted or have responded to the. ballot without appeal. Wo also heartily appreciate the loyalty to the church shown by those young ministers who ' have requested fro rathe president twfr ■ mission to enlist, but have consented to wait until thiji conference considered toe , situation. We recommend that the Me- I thodist Church, through this its iU- • preme court, assumes the entire responsibility of determining the relationship I of its ministers to the Military Servioß j Act, taking the full onus of appeal!. ' (2) ''That having considered the whole situation of circuits, stations and chaplaincies, nnd finding <iat, in coneequeiice of 52 ministers, students atd home missionaries having enlisted, there are among many eighteen important places seeking in vain- for supplies ,this conference feels that the. whole of the remaining staff is required, 'its irreducible, minimum*' being now, reached. '' * The following were appointed a torn'mittee to consider whether appeals be lodged:—The president (Rev. Sinclair), vice-president (Veale), Revs. Garlajftd, Laws and Bollhouse, Messrs Peak and .Tones, and the corresponding members the Revs La wry and Dawson, countries.
