GALLANTRY REWARDED
CARDIFF BOY HONORED. (By Our Special Reporter). Stratford, Last Night. The Mayor, Mr .T, W. Boon, presided at the crowded meeting held in the Town Ilall this evening, to witness the presentation by Colonel Sir James Allen (Minister of Defence) of tho Distinguished Conduct Medal to Corporal C. li. Barker, of Cardiff, for distinguished conduct on August IS, 1915, at Chunik Bair, Gallipoli, when in the face of fire and great difficulties he rendered great service in carrying munitions and water to the firing line and acting as guide to reinforcements, and on his way back carrying wounded soldiers. At the conclusion of a most congratulatory address by the Minister, rousing cheer* were given for the recipient. Major E. P. Cox, of Hawera, wag also presented with a 12 years' service me« dal. Colonel Allen mentioned that Major Cox had been promoted on the battle* field of Gallipoli, and liad been twice mentioned in despatches. Ho had returned home wounded.
