On Thursday, March 9, the Mi wir4 school annual picnic will be held at the East End beach. The picnic, which is certain to be well attended, will use the ordinary morning and evening trains. The school at Stanley road, which has been built to replace the school destroyed by fire some time ago, is now completed, and will be officially opened on Friday evening by a social, which will be attended by the chairman, members of the Education Board, and other visiters, On the same evening Private Lin;ham, who is leaving for the front, will be farewelled. The hon. circuit reporter of the Methodist Church reports:—Sunday, February 2ii, marked an era in Sunday school history—it being the day when the Midhirst Slethodist Sunday School held their anniversary. The people came in good numbers to each of the three services, the church being comfortably filled. The children were in good form, and sang well under the excellent management of ■Mr. Lester. Mrs. Bennet presided at the organ. The morning and afternoon services were taken by Mr-s. Bridgman (i nd the evening by the Rev. Bridgman. The children, at- the afternoon services, received their prizes. The Misses Clare Keightley, Hazel Smith, Dorothy KeightJev, and Masters James and Harold Baskin won the conference diplomas of hon. or. The superintendent (Mr. Mail) and his staff of teachers are to be congratulated, and very great credit is due to Mr. who trained the children and choir so well. Some friends came from <Jie Stratiord choir to help and make the singing still more attractive. The public presentation of the Distinguished Conduct Medal to Corporal 0. Basker, of Cardiff, by the Minister for Defence, will be held in the Town Hail this evening. Seats will be reserved for veterans, returned soldiers and their lady friends. Many favorable comments have been heard regarding the good quality and excellent value dftering in every article sold at C. E. James' Jewellery Store. The proprietor has just returned from a business visit, and is now offering bigger and better bargains*
