He now holds the Directorship of the Graves Registration Commission of the "British Ann.v, with the rank of brigadier-general. General Ware has had a varied career. For ten years he was an assistant-master in secondary schools, later on an inspector to the Board of J'.ducation, for two years Director of Education in the Transvaal, and finally commander of a unit of the British P>ed Cross Society with the French Army. He is a chevalier of the Legion of Honor. A cable received in Christchurch on Tuesday stated that Mr. Philip Carrington, of Canterbury College, New Zealand, has been awarded the Hulsean Prize at Cambridge University. Mr. Philip Carrington is a son of Dean Carrington, of Christchurch. Ho is 24 years of age, and went to Cambridge two years ago to read for Holy Orders, after passing through Christ s College and Canterbury College. At Cambridge lie has <won the Chancellor's gold modal for liny isli verse, the Members (of Parliament) prize for an English essay, the Carus Prize for knowledge of the Greek Testament, the Searlo Prize for an English essay, a first in theology, and now°the Hulsean, which is one of the university's own prizes, value 00 guineas, and is given annually for the best theological essay.
