All films before being exhibited must lie approved by the Board of Censors. EFFECT OF EARLY CLOSING. Sydney, Ferbuary 22; The secretary of the New South Wales Alliance has obtained statistics from the Collector of Customs, showing that during the half-year prior to the six closing duty was paid on 12,277, (580. gallons of beer and 059,789 gallons of spirits, while for the half-year under the six o'clock closing duty was paid on M,-G71,G00 gallons of beer and 405.050 gallons of spirits, a decrease in beer of (>00,011) gallons and of spirits 194,732 gallons, while the decrease of Customs «nd excise djity was £187,104. He claims that as the duty represents aoout one-fourth the selling value of irink to the community, the drink bill lor tlie six months has dropped bv £750,000. ' PORT AUGUSTA-KALGOOKLIE KAIL< WAY. Melbourne, February 22. The rails' for the Port Augusta-Kal-goorlie railway have been laid for f)±4 miles, leaving a gap between the easti em and western sections of 109 miles. The work has been held up owing to shortage of rails.
