PLIGHT OF AUSTRIA-HUNGARY. AN ACUTE SITUATION. NO FUEL; THOUSANDS STARVING, Router Service. Received Feb. 22, 5.5 p.m. London, Feb. 21. The woll.informod Budapest correspondent of the Morning Post shows that the -situation in Austria-Hungavy is acute, especially in the big cities. The situation at Prague is almost inconceivable. If. is absolutely without fuel, including the Hospitals at the famous Pr.igue Clinique, Where all serious operations have had to be .postponed. _ There is an appalling situation at Vienna and Budapest, which can par■'■iilly be realised by the fact that it is officially admitted that 73 per cent, less foodstuffs are coming in than a few weeks ago. Consequently tens of thousands are literally starving, owing to the closing of public kitchens. Meanwhile the newspapers are full of telegrams from Berlin that Italy, France and England are on starvation rations, and that England must succumb, but the populace is past caring what happens t,o England, as the result of want of food. AUSTRO-AMERICAN SITUATION A CRISIS REACHED. ' Berne, Feb.^ei. A semi-official message from Vienna states that the Austro-American situation is extremely grave. Count Tisza's' newspaper, the 'Pester Lloyd, states that a, crisis has been reached. RELIEVING FOOD SHORTAGE.
DEPORTATION OP CITY CHILDREN. Reuter Service. Received Feb. 22, 5.5 p.m. Amsterdam, Feb. 21. The Vorwaerts states that mass de_ portations of ailing children from Berlin are planned to relieve the food shortage in the town and secure healthier conditions and also to help agriculture. WORLD'S WHEAT SUPPLY. IMPORTS FROM AUSTRALIA. Received Feb, 22, 5.5 p.m. Berlin, Feb. 21. Dr. Helfferich states that the year's world's wheat crop is thirty-six million tons, against fifty-six million tons last year. The bulk of English grain must be imported from Australia, entailing triple length route, and therefore triple tonnage.
