SPORTING.

I TURF TOPICS. j (By "Moturoa.") ! Monday's arrivals at Wangnnui included e! Barlow, with Depredation and Paraoa; P. Johnson with Madam Ristori, and W. Mantle with Sunbird. Geo. Price hronglit up • Nystad and Birkenand R. Gooseman arrived with Indigo. A large number of trotting enthusiasts and trotters have also reached headquarters, and Wangamri presents a very busy appearance. The weather is hot and summery. Monday night's acceptances for the Wanganui Cup and Flying Handicap are very satisfactory, but the minor events have filial poorly. Thirteen remain in the Cup, including fancied horses like Bunting, Colonel Soult, Depredation, Indigo, Client, Bjorneborg, Analogue, and Master Lupin. Practically all the acceptors have either won Cups or run prominently in big races, and a fine r.tee should be witnessed on Thursday. The principal absentees are Bee, Egypt, and Rangitero. A dozen hold their ground in the Flying Handicap, and a remarkable thing about the field is that six of the twelve horses hail from Taranaki. Tete-a-Tete was paid up for with 10.2, which occasioned some surprise. Bimeter has dropped out, but Ghakwana, Form Up and Xystad remain in. The light-weights are a very ordinary crowd. Eight arc carded for the Stewards' Handicap, Cleft having apparently frightened out some of the opposition. The Juvenile Handicap has drawn seven, including Agncslea and Acre. The nine in the Petre Handicap are moderates, and with the exception of Analogue and Iceberg the same applies to the eight engaged in Wiritoa Handicap. _ A quartette engaged in the Westmere "" Hurdle race is a poor response for a lair stake, and the eight in the Tayforth welter may be further reduced on the day. Small fields and small dividends should be the outstanding features of the meeting. ■1 .Bunting is looking a perfect picture, I anil has made many # friends for the Cup ■ since his arrival in Wanganui. Nystad | is also coining into favor for the Flying I Handicap.

Opnnako entries close' to-morrow (Thursday) at -5 p.m. Full programme in this issue.
