TARANAKI OIL FIELDS.

BLENHEIM BORE—DEPTH 4800 FEET. Good work is being done at the Blenheim Bore at Moturoa, and a, depth of 4800 feet lias been reached. Referring to the matter Mr E. Griffiths, managing director of the Blenheim Company, Btated that the bore had been passing through clay which showed a. good deal of bituminous matter. As the bore had passed through many feet of this formation, the promoters expect at any time to meet limestone. In the sequence of formations, the clay now being met with corresponds with the formation in which cool has been found at Mokau. The coal overlies the limestone, and below the limestone is the green sandstone in which Dr Bell and other geologists have intimated that coal will be found. The depth of limestone cannot be gauged.
