STRATFORD.
[All communications, letter?, etc., left with Mr. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will receive prompt attention.] (From Our Own Correspondent) February 17. To-day is gloriously fine, and the i town is well-filled with busy whopper*. The Red Cross Mart was controlled by the Bird Road ladies, headed by Mrs. C. Meuli, whilst the tea rooms were in charge of Mrs. Boon. It was a happy idea to hold a garden fete in aid of securing stained glass windows for the Anglican Church. The outing was held, on Thursday, and the locality, Mr. T. C. Fookes' grounds, proved an ideal spot for the ceremony. Whilst the sun shone the kiddies romped, those in their teens played croquet or tennis, whilst others beyond the athletic stage found much to amuse and enthuse over. When darkness descended the '•"church family" were further entertained indoors by Mr. and Mrs. Fookes. It is not surprising therefore to record that the generous hospitality shown was reciprocated by the pastor, Rev. Howard, in a neat speech, the oldsters by ringing cheers, and the youngsters with generous appetites. The result of the fete should secure several panes for the church. At'-Wanganui last week some excitement was caused by the crowds of women blocking the thoroughfare eager to participate in the bargains being offered in that town. ..There is no need for Stratford people to visit Wanganui, as bargains in every class are being offered at C. E. James' fancy goods warehouse.*
