GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL.

NEW HOSTEL OPENED. The new boarding establishment in connection with the New Plymouth Girls' High School has just been opened, Sirandon House, Te Hcnui, having been altered and renovated for the purpose. The new hostel is a considerable improvement on the premises previously used. It is situated in lovely grounds, a fine lawn lying at the back, and t!w house is well away from the main thoroughfare and close to the sea. An important advantage is that the hostel is situated close to the Fitzroy railway station and within easy distance of the school on Mangorei road. The premises have been altered and the rooms re-ar-ranged to accommodate three teachers and 28 pupiln, besides the matron alia the. house-staff. There are now three teachers and 27 pupils in the hostel. From a wide-hallway at the front entrance, access is given to the principal's sitting room, and the teachers' sitting loom. The, dining-room and kitchen arc. also on the ground floor. Upstairs the girls' dormitories and teachers' bedrooms are arranged. 'From the back balcony and front bedrooms, fine outlooks can be obtained. Beds can be removed to the balcony at will. The rooms are well ventilated and the large windows admit plenty of light. The contractors have done their work well, and given the interior of the house a beautiful and tasteful finish. Fine carpets on the floors and stairs and good furniture ensure the comfort of the inmates. In two of the dormitories arc pianos. The arrangements include a nice bathroom, fire-escapes, and a wellequipped laundry. Already there is evidence of shortage of room at Strandon, and a sitting-room /for the girls would be a much-appreciated acquisition. The teaching staft and pupils are very happy in their new home, and feel well satisfied with the arrangement.-! provided for them. The pupils are in charge of Miss Barr, and the house ia conducted by the matron, Miss Richardson.
