DISTRICT NEWS.
WAREA. (From a Correspondent). On Friday evening last in the Warca Hall a grand farewell social and presentation was tendered to Privates Harry Wells and F.lwin Clothier, who were home on their final leave. There was a large and representative gathering of settlers. Mr. J. Burgess, on behalf of the residents, made the presentation, which took the form of a wristlet watch to each of the lads, "in doing so, Mr. Burgess said he felt sure they would uphold the dignity of the country tliey represented and jr&o that they 'would follow the example 'of the boys who had gone before and who had conducted themselves as gentlemen, but 'at the same time he felt sorry to see the pick of our manhood had to leave home. The war had to be won, however, to ensure pcjice and liberty, and he hoped the two young men would be spared to come home again. He further said it behoved every man and iwoman who could not go to stir themselves to further production and keep tilings going until the boys returned, and also they should see that they would want for nothing. What we could do was nothing compared with : wliat the boys were doing for us at the front. lie called on Miss Ivy Wells to fasten the watcli on the wrist of 'Private Clothier, and Miss Vera Clothier on Private Harry Wells. After singing "For they are jolly good fellows," Private Harry Wells returned thanks on behalf of Private Clothier and himself. Dancing was resumed, a large number of couples taking the floor. A dainty supper, for 'Which the ladies deserve every credit, was handed round. Mr. Harnett supplied the music in his usual good style. Extras were played by Mr. W. Butler and Miss Jessie Aylward. Mr. Roy Julian made an excellent M.C.
