(From Our Own Correspondent)
A farewell was given to ..Dr. Kelly, who has been priest in charge of the Opiinake-Pungarehu district since Father Harnett's enforced leave on account of ilihejs. The Town Hall was well-filled by members of the congregation and representatives from other churches. Mr. Maeßeynolds, .who presided, spoke of the popularity of Dr. Kelly, and presented him with a purse of sovereigns. Dean Power, of Hawera, was present, and stated that he would miss the genial doctor, as he made frequent visits to Opunake for the purpose of enjoying Dr. Kelly's company. Dr. Kelly has been appointed editor of the Tablet, and left for Duncdin on Monday. At the same time and place a welcome was extended to Father Doolagety, who has been appointed to the district. The rev. gentleman stated that he was a poor substitute for Dr. Kelly, but he would his very best, and that was all he could do. Time would be the test of his capabilities, and he would leave it at that.
During the evening songs and recitations were given by Rev. Tapakakura, Messrs McCrath, lliekey and Curran and Miss Keoghan. After supper was handed round dancing concluded a very pleasant evening. Mr. K .Cannell provided the dance music, and also played the accompaniments.

Some people are not over-burdened with won; on account of the stress of war, otherwise they would not have gone to the trouble of writing- about ij notices in a disguised hand and posting them up m public places. The notices were not scurrilous, but contained pin-pr'ekiug innuendoes. Following soon a'ler this a more contemptible trick oe- •• A legal doorstep received a ; not of lis Sd, but more penii- . aroma. Somebody is looking I will get, an introduction to tUtratc. <e was not much business done at ... -i meeting o\ the Town Board, outLie routine work. The members oresent were: Messrs W. ('. Dndlev (chairman), O. A. Million, .1. P. Burton and E. I'liorpe. The foreman reported on the past month's work, which con-i-ted of clearing i.ut water-tables and tarring small portions of footpath. In r( -p|y to requests to the auctioneering firms' operating in this district to take out a licen-e in Opunake, they wrote that arrangements had oeeu made for this vear, but they would do I heir best to comply with the request next year. The Church of England harvest festival was ji iwy .m'cees.-fu! affair, the
prices obtained for vegetables being on the high side. The united Methodist picnic,, which was to take place at the Mountain House, was held on the beach. The reason for the change was that a culvert was undergoing repairs on the Eltham road and traffic was held up for a while. Very little interest so far is being shown in connection with the forthcom" ing poll of ratepayers for raising the £30,000 loan at 5% per cent, for eon•'.truction of harbor works. ' The Taranaki Automobile Association (Mr. Webster) reported to the Seaside Society some days ago that they would held their annual outing on the Op-make beach on the 14th.
