"Regarding the approaching show of the Tnranaki Metropolitan Agricultural Society, it may be stated that the executive is making every effort to make the 1017 gathering surpass those of previous years. Alt'ho.ugh this is war time, there, is every reason to believe that the efforts of the committee to hold the annual show and further to undertake the construction of the new grounds and buildings will be rewarded by the generous support of the public and nominations in iarge numbers hy owners of stock. Anart from the honor attached to the securing of a championship ribbon, it is rip to the farmers possessing the pedigree bull, the purebred cow, the thoroughbred horse, the .purebred pig, etc, to exhibit same. The fame of being first in a •well-eontcstcd class will ilo° much to enhance the. reputation of the breeder of the winning stock. It also affords the inexperienced farmer and the townsmen splendid object lessons on what the "best in stock" really stands for. To those not particularly interested in stock it may be mentioned that the sliow is not by any means a dull performance. There is plenty to be seen and nlenly of excitement in the lea pin" and jumping competitions. Then the machinery exhibits this year are to bo of particular interest. The tent men are generally n feature of these outings, ami they are sure to muster strongly on this 'occasion. The weather, always an important element, only needs to be fine to make, the two days' fixture pleasant to patrons and profitable to the Society. The show will 'be held on Wednesday. February 23, • and Thursday, March 1 (People's Hay). Entries close on February 17. Schedules may be obtained from the secretary, P.O. box 19, New Plymouth. . TAKE PLENTY OF TIME TO EAT.
