A cablegram from Perth states it is understood that Sir F.Uison-Miieartnoy, Governor of Tasmania, succeeds Sii Harry Barron as Governor of Westralia. The Bishop of Auckland (has appointed Rev. Dr. O'Caliaghan, late vicar of the Thame*, locum tenons to St. Mary's parish. The appointment of a vicar lias not yet been made. It was announced recently that Captain A. F. Batehelar, of the Xew Zealand Expeditionary Force, has been promoted to be major. This promotion was made at the front "for good service in the field," and is dated April 12, 1910. The Rev. H. B. Grav, until recently minister of the Xo'rth-East Valley Church, Dunedin, was inducted to the charge of the Hawera Presbyterian Church on Wednesday. There'was a large congregation, and the Moderator (the Rev. Mr. Mclvor, of Waverlev) conducted the service, which, says the local paper, was simple but impressive in character. The members of the IV ranaki Presbytery were alio present. Mr. F. Stevens, Hawera, who is severing his connection with Messrs. Smith and Easton, and is joining the staff of the Farmers' Co-operative Society at Manaia, was entertained at a smoke 'concert on Thursday evening and presented by the citizens with a case of silvervricuntcd pipes, Mrs. Stevens being presented with a pair of unique vases. Ho also received from the firm of Smith and Easton a pair of military hair bnishes. Numerous tributes were given to Mr. Stevens' good work in Hawera.
