The Eltlmm Town Clerk (Mr. J, M. Poynter) lias volunteered for military service and has been accepted, Mr. 'lMynter will join the 30th, Reinforcements, which go into camp on May 28. The death of Sir Arthur Rutlcdge, a Queensland judge who was formerly a member of the Queensland Assembly, is announced by cable.
Dr. Violet Field, daughter of Mr. 'l. A. 11. Field, M.P.. was (states the Nelson Evening Mail) recently appointed Professor of Pathology at tho I.fldy flardinge Memorial College, Delhi, and went to Loudon to take a special course in pathology before beginning her work at Dellii. While she was working as as. iistant-bacteriologist, at Lister lustituto her health broke down, necessitating some months' rest. She went to California and spent a couple of months in the mountains, coming on later to New Zealand. After a few months' rest., Dr. Field will return to America for special work at one of the universities there before taking up her residence in India. The college stands in 49 acres of ground, with tennis courts, hockey ground, etc., and 11 acres are taken up by the various bi ildings. All the members of the stair (seven professors at present) are women, and accommodation is provided for 100 women students.
