At the sittings of the Second Otago Military Service Board four appeals were dismissed, two being railway surfacemen, sixteen appeals were adjourned for one month, and two wore allowed, appellants being over age, ten were adjourned sine (lit, and twenty-one were granted leave for varying terms. WELLINGTON SITTINGS. Wellington, Feb. li. At the military Appeal Board sittings, Matthew Boyd Guise, a brass finisher, appealed on .the ground that his calling' up would be contrary to public interest. He was the partner of a brass moulder, arid- counsel pointed out that there wa3 a distinct shortage of brass workers. Guise- and his partner were engaged on a military work contract, and also did important brass work in connection witl; milking and shearing machines and millv vats. The contracts entered into would take nine months to complete. The Board adjourned the appeal until April 22, conditionally on every endeavor being made meanwhile to replace appellant. " A SHEARER EXEMPTED, Wellington, Feb. 7. The Military Appeal Board granted exemption in the case of an expert shearer, who was willing to enter into an understanding to continue shearing, and between season to engage in farm work, station work, or work in connection with the wool or meat industries. He is to report monthly as to what he is doing.
