Sir Thomas Mackenzie's report on the. assistance rendered to New Zealand prisoners shows that, in addition to parcels of clothing, each received 9s worth of food weekly, and cigarettes and tobacco fortnightly, prisoners in Germany receiving is Od weekly, pocket money, and those in Turkey 10s 4d to 12s 2d per week, according to' the*locality where they are imprisoned. The latter receive a good local bread supply. 'There is great diflieulty in sending parcels, which sometimes take from three to ten months in transmission, so that to receive money is easier.
