In order to keep the home going the two girls and their mother do piecework in their rooms, while their father goes to the country with a young oil prospector, Jack Herron, in an effort to earn money. Edith, who loves 'her twin sister dearly, tries to spare her as much as she can, and frequently makes her stop work and go out into the streets to get some air. During one of these rest spellGrace is bribed 'by a drug fiend to go into Chinatown and get him some opium. Grace goes, and incidentally gets her first taste of the drug. She remembers that it made everything seem like a dream to her, and afterwards, when she and her sister secure employment in a blouse factory, and she is suffering from the effects of overwork, takes opium. She is not suspected, and later, when an ignorant doctor gives her morphine as a medicine, she becomes a secret drug fiend. From this on the story develops strongly. "The Secret Sin"" will be screened for to-night and to-morrow only.
